GrowMuir didn’t start as a business idea. It started with three gardeners I grew up watching, and a feeling that what they knew was going to get lost.
Great-grandfather
Grew chrysanthemums for competition in Yorkshire, and won more than his share of top prizes for it.
Grandfather
Gardened with a purpose — vegetables that reached the Sunday dinner table every week — and made sure I knew the how and the why of it, not just the doing.
Father
Gardened for the ecology of it: wildflowers left to do their job, a garden built for what lived in it as much as what grew in it.

That’s three generations of hands-in-the-soil knowledge, and by the time it reached me I could see it thinning out. Knowing what actually suits your soil, your light, the season you’re planting in — that’s mostly ended up with specialists, or people with the time to read the books and put in the years. Most people don’t have that time any more.
Meanwhile the gardening industry, online and in-store, mostly reaches people the same way: blanket marketing. Everyone gets the same offer email and the same seasonal push, whether or not it has anything to do with their actual garden.
GrowMuir is what I built instead — the guidance a good gardening relative gives you, delivered by technology at a scale one grandfather never could. Plants matched to your own garden: your soil, your light, the season you’re actually planting in, so what you’re shown is what will actually work for you.
Not a wider catalogue and not a louder newsletter — the same three things my grandfather worked out by eye, done for your own garden instead of his.
Photograph it, or type the name on the label, and AskMuir tells you what it is and what it needs.
Every suggestion is checked against your own soil, light and the season you're planting in — not a generic label on a shelf.
Watering and frost alerts, and a care calendar that moves with the weather where you actually are.
What to plant, what's gone wrong, what to do this month — answered the way someone who'd done it for forty years would answer it.

This is the closest thing to what I actually grew up with — someone stood next to you in the aisle, telling you whether a plant would do well where you were about to put it. The Companion does that job at the garden centre, in four steps.

One tap, or scan the code on the door. It tells us which shop you are standing in.

Every plant — and anything that goes with it, like compost or feed — is checked against your own soil, light and aspect, not a general label.

What this centre has on right now, what it saves you, and where to find it in store — shown next to whether the plant suits your garden.

It goes into your history, so the rest of your shop is advised around it — compost, feed and what pairs with it.
