Flowers: Spring
The bald cypress (Taxodium distichum 'Peve Minaret') is a slender, pyramidal deciduous conifer which is native to North America. It is a slow-growing tree, reaching heights of up to 70 feet at maturity with a spread of 25 feet. Its needles are feathery and light green in colour and turn yellow to orange in autumn. It is also very tolerant of wet soils and is commonly used in swampy areas for stabilizing banks and mitigating flood control. In addition to its ornamental appeal, this tree is usually seen with 'knees' around its base from roots that surface above ground. The bark is reddish-brown and scaly with finely divided upright branches which gives it a somewhat unique visual appeal.
