Berkeley sedge (Carex tumulicola) is truly amazing. This perennial species thrives in many different habitats and is tolerant to drought and heat. It can be found growing along roadsides, shores of lakes or streams, and even in dry open woodlands. With its loosely tufted form and finely textured leaves, it makes an outstanding accent along walkways. Its small yellow-green flowers bloom in late spring to early summer, and small, brown seedlike fruits form in the summer. Berkeley sedge is also low-maintenance, and is easy to cultivate in sunny or shaded areas, making it an attractive specimen for gardens of any size.
