Austrian pine 'Globosa Viridis' (Pinus nigra subsp. laricio) is a sturdy evergreen tree with a compact, globe-shaped canopy. This attractive conifer grows to 16 feet high with a spread of 9 to 12 feet wide and is densely branched. Its cold-hardy branches are covered with long, dark green needles that give off a pleasant aroma when crushed. Austrian pines have light brown bark that exfoliates to reveal deep orange and cinnamon-colored stripes in the underlying bark layer. The deepest, most mature 'Globosa Viridis' display stunning golden-green hues both in the wood and on the needles. This striking variety is an ideal option for windbreaks and hedges.
