Bay Rum Tree (Pimenta racemosa) is a species of evergreen tree native to the Caribbean and the Americas. It grows best in moist, well-drained soils in tropical climates. Its dark green leaves have an aromatic scent and, when crushed, give off a powerful scent. The fruits of the tree are shiny and dark blue. Its most notable feature is its woody bark which smells strongly of the fragrant bay leaves (Pimenta), giving it its namesake. The tree can grow to approximately 9m in height and is used for a variety of purposes, including producing essential oils, medicines, and herbal teas.
