Flowers: Spring
Baikal Sedge (Carex sabulosa) is a succulent perennial grass that is native to the Lake Baikal region in Siberia. It has a mat-forming habit and bears light green foliage on long stems. The leaves are linear, greenish-grey in colour, with a hint of blue to them, and become thicker at the tips. This plant blooms in summer with white, embellished, beaded flowers. Hardy in nature, it produces thick, seed-filled capsules which are dispersed by the wind. This plant is tolerant of many varied soils, making it an easy addition to any garden. A great groundcover, it is also drought and frost-tolerant and requires little maintenance.
