American arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis 'Wareana Lutescens') is a popular evergreen shrub typically reaching 4-8 feet tall and 3-6 feet wide. This attractive rounded shrub produces fan-like foliage sprouting from upswept branches. Its bright yellow foliage darkens to a yellow-green in summer, and in winter the slender tips of the foliage turn a charming bronze-copper hue. This hardy shrub can survive in a variety of environments, performing best in full sun and moist but well-drained soil.
